BARCS is grateful for every donation we receive.
A few months ago, we received such a generous
donation, we wanted to share the story with all of
our supporters. When Uptown Dog in Hampden
closed its doors this past summer, owner Kimberly
Jackson thought immediately of BARCS. Kimberly
says she has always loved animals and being a
Baltimore City native, she was aware of the plight
of homeless cats and dogs and the work BARCS has
done on their behalf.
When Uptown Dog first opened, Kimberly said many
BARCS supporters were early and frequent customers.
They would often talk to her about the improvements
at BARCS. When it became clear that Uptown Dog
was closing, Kimberly said it occurred to her that
donating the store's inventory to BARCS was a
win-win both for BARCS and for herself - the animals
at BARCS could use the comfy beds and the other
items could be used for fundraising - and for
Kimberly, even though she was closing a chapter of
her life, instead of feeling sad, there was good
that came out of it.
The items donated from
Kimberly were valued at over $20,000! We
were able to raise funds at BARCStoberfest utilizing
many items in our Silent Auction and the animals in
the shelter were deservedly pampered with wonderful
products from Uptown Dog. BARCS would like to
extend a special thank you to Kimberly for thinking
of our shelter and making such a generous donation!
Since the closing of her store, Kimberly has gone
back to her consulting business (Kimberly Jackson
Enterprises), an accounting and administrative
support services firm. She can be reached at
410-935-0864. |
