BARCS Takes in Cat Set on Fire

BARCS is sad to report that there has been another case of animal cruelty that was brought to our shelter this week. An 8-month old cat was deliberately set fire and burned in the Garrison Ave. neighborhood in Baltimore.

Animal Control received a call from a citizen concerning a cat that had been set fire. The citizen stated that she saw several kids throw rocks and bricks at the cat and then pour a liquid on it. She turned away and when she turned back the cat was burning. The cat was able to roll and put the flames out, but the kids caught it and set it on fire a second time.

Despite her condition, the cat - now named Gabrielle - was purring as the BARCS staff evaluated her. Utilizing the Franky Fund, BARCS sent Gabrielle, to Everhart Veterinary Hospital for further evaluation. The burns are several days old and will need daily bandage changes and treatment.

Fortunately, a local animal rescue organization, Recycled Love, has agreed to take over the care of Gabrielle.

This case is being sent to the police for further investigation.

UPDATE (8/8): Gabrielle has been transferred to Spay Maryland Hospital where she will be treated for her injuries. The Snyder Foundation is offering a reward of $1,000 for anyone that comes forward with information leading to the conviction of the individuals responsible for this crime. If you would like to donate, please contact Recycled Love.
